The 2011 NRL season launch has been marked on the Central Coast with a luncheon at Terrigal’s Crowne Plaza in early March that saw almost 200 Central Coast Bears supporters get the low-down on what the season promises.
At the same time the optimistic crowd were able to show their support for the Central Coast Bears in the team’s bid to enter the National Rugby League competition.
The event highlight saw a panel of rugby league veterans - Michael Buettner, Bradley Clyde and Billy Moore - discuss their experiences in the game and predictions for the 2011 season.
"The sold-out event was a demonstration of just how passionate the community is about having an NRL team on the Central Coast," said Greg Florimo, Chief Executive Officer of the Central Coast Bears. "Community backing has been a major pillar in our bid to enter the draw and this event was proof that support is stronger than ever," he added.
Earlier, Leader of the Opposition, Barry O’Farrell, campaigning on the Coast announced that if elected the new government would hand over $3.5 million for offices and training facilities at Mt. Penang Parklands Kariong.
This and a growing membership base that has now passed 6,000 members further strengthens the Bears’ bid to join the competition in 2014.
