The administrative centres for Gosford and Wyong Local Government Areas which comprise the Central Coast region are the CBD's of Gosford and Wyong. Within the region a number of Town Centres have developed to service the commercial and retail needs of their surrounding areas with some taking on a more significant and wider role. These suburban centres, or town centres, and their commercial characteristics are detailed below to provide you with a snapshot of the Central Coast region.
Gosford is the capital of the Central Coast. Situated on the shores of Brisbane Water, Gosford is a major public transport hub with rail and bus interchange and direct road links to Sydney and all other areas within the region. Gosford is an important commercial centre for the Central Coast with banking and financial services stock brokers, investment advisers and financial planners, insurance brokers and lawyers, accountants and property valuers. Gosford is also a major centre for health services with Gosford Hospital being a teaching hospital and other medical services including specialist medical centres. Gosford's retail precinct comprises two shopping centres, Imperial Centre and Gosford Town Centre along with other retail stores The 20,000 seat Gosford City Stadium, overlooking Brisbane Water is regarded as one of the finest stadiums in Australia and is a popular venue for rugby league, rugby union and football as well as an entertainment venue.

Erina is situated on the Central Coast Highway, the main arterial road to the Region's beaches, 5.5 kilometres from Gosford.
Within the Erina business area is the regional shopping centre, Erina Fair, commercial and retail developments and a light industrial area. Adjacent to the business area are a number of retirement villages.
All located within a kilometre radius, this grouping of homeware retailers in one area provides an unusual critical mass making Erina a magnet for consumers looking to buy homewares.
Most developments in Erina are a mix of retail and commercial with Fountain Plaza and adjacent Fountain Corporate being regarded as the leading complex. ANZ, National and Westpac banks have located their regional business banking offices at Fountain Plaza. A branch of the Bank of Queensland also operates from this location.

Woy Woy, Ettalong Beach and Umina Beach make up the area known as the Peninsula, a unique area in the south of the Region. It appears isolated from the rest of the Region due to the large expanse of Brisbane Water which surrounds and separates it from the rest of the Region; however, this is regarded its greatest asset.
Woy Woy is the main retail and commercial centre of the area with two shopping centres, Deepwater Plaza and Peninsula Plaza, and a smaller retail area. It is also a public transport hub for bus, train and ferry services.

Ettalong Beach is situated at the entrance to Brisbane Water and is primarily a residential area but with a growing focus on tourism. The Mantra Ettalong Beach Resort, Ettalong Beach Club and Ettalong Beach Hotel, has attracted a new tourist clientele. A scheduled passenger ferry service operates between Ettalong Beach and Palm Beach.

The Umina Beach Town Centre is a retail service centre for the southern Peninsula area with a range of retail stores. Woolworths Limited and Aldi have bought large sites in the Town Centre for supermarket development.

A well known beachside suburb and tourist destination, Terrigal is best known for its wide range of restaurants and bars, Crowne Plaza Hotel and Star of the Sea apartments along with a number of motels and bed and breakfasts attracting high-yield visitors. In recent years in-fill prestige residential apartment developments have seen an influx of wealthy Sydney and overseas buyers moving into the market.

- Wyong Town Centre top
As well as being the administrative centre for the LGA, Wyong is a transport hub for rail and feeder-bus services from outlying areas. The town centre's retail offering has been significantly augmented with the redevelopment of Wyong Village Shopping Centre in 2006. Adding to the retail offering in Wyong, supermarket operator Aldi has purchased land in the town centre and is expected to start construction on a new supermarket in 2010.
Running through the back of the town centre, to the west, is the picturesque Wyong River which is now seen as an important asset in the town's redevelopment.
In early 2008, property developers Clarendon Residential Group - a subsidiary of Investa Property Group, opened Mantra Kooindah Waters Residential Golf & Spa Resort at Wyong with an 18-hole championship golf course, golf club and 100-room luxury resort surrounded by a home residential development which, when completed, will comprise 252 homes and villas.

Five kilometres south of Wyong Town Centre, Tuggerah is located at the convergence of the Pacific Highway, the Sydney/Newcastle Expressway, Wyong Road which leads to the coastal suburbs and the railway and is therefore a major public transport hub. Comprised within the Tuggerah precinct is the major regional shopping centre, Westfield Shoppingtown, Tuggerah Homemakers Supa Centre, Tuggerah Business Park, Woodbury Park Estate residential area and St Patrick's College as well as Tuggerah industrial area.

Situated at the entrance to Tuggerah Lakes, The Entrance is traditionally the Central Coast's leading holiday area. The Entrance is well known for its many restaurants and cafes overlooking the foreshore and entrance to Tuggerah Lake Numerous tourist/residential apartment developments have been built over the last five years and more are under construction or planned. Mirvac Group's Quay West Resort and Conference Centre at nearby North Entrance is built on a 101 hectare site with 18-hole championship golf course that has been rated in the top 10 of Australia's leading golf courses, surround by luxury residential villas and homes.

Warnervale is at the centre of the large residential developments, north of Wyong, developed over the past 15 years which are driving the Region's population growth. Along with this is a major industrial area that promises to be a major employment driver (for further information of the Warnervale Industrial Area see under Industrial Areas). Presently there is no retail or community facilities available for residents in this area A proposed Warnervale Town Centre precinct comprises about 114 hectares on the northern side of Sparks Road.

The Toukley Town Centre is 14 kilometres north of Wyong and is situated between Tuggerah Lake and Lake Budgewoi.
Toukley services a residential area that extends to Norah Head. It is on the main arterial road leading from the Sydney/Newcastle Freeway through to the Central Coast. The main arterial coastal roads link Gosford and The Entrance to Toukley.
Businesses within the town centre include retailers, medical centres and commercial services. The Toukley RSL Club is the largest business in the town and a growing range of medical services are located in the town centre.
